FABRIC
Pakistan is a cotton producing country.
It produces best quality fabric on latest weaving machines and has the highest foreign trade in textile sector. The importing
countries include USA, European Union ,African countries and other countries of the world.
At the same time country has handloom sector in and around cities.
This sector is concentrated in all the Provinces of Pakistan.
Variety of hand made textile crafts is more than 5000 years old.
Weaving, dyeing, printing and decoration of cloth has been among major occupations of artists and craftsmen.
The best known handmade items are Khaddar,
Malmal, Khes,Lungi, Sussi,Silk cloth ,Woolen shawls, Wooden
patti,Gabba ,Namda,Rilli and traditional embroidery in different fancy styles and tastes of Regions and
Provinces of Pakistan.
NAMDA
Namda is an art of use of sheep's natural wool in its original texture and
colour. It is decorated and ornamented with chain-stich embriodery of
floral, geometric or animals patterns. It is a piece of rug.
BLOCK PRINTING
The traditional process of block printing on fabric
involves tracing of a design on a wooden block which can be easily handheld. The
portion not to be colored are scraped from the plain surface of the wood
to a depth of a quarter inch. Separate wooden blocks are made for use in
different colors.The wooden blocks are used to imprint by smearing in dyes on fabric .
AJRAK
It is a piece of fabric made with block printing process in different
sizes and with vibrant colors more particularly deep blue , maroon and
black. The designs are contemporary .This is used by males and females in the
provinces of Punjab and Sindh to cover the upper part of the body in summer and winter.

GABBA
This is beautiful presentation of traditional craftsmen of
Kashmir. This is an attractive piece of rug and wall hanging .The base is of jute or
woolen
matting and embroidery thereon is of woolen thread with special needle
work. The embroidery with chain stich depicts scenes of hunting , wedding celebration;
rural
life, floral and geometric patterns and designs. It can also be used as floor cushion.
SUSSI.
This is a hand loom
textile ,rich in its variety of colors and textures .It is woven of
silk yarn or of silk and cotton blend Weaving involves stripes of a
number of colors on a piece.
Rilli:
Hallmark of Folk Craft
Rilli means
patchwork of cut work fabric measuring in centimeters. This is a
special craft, which combines several decorative techniques –
printing, painting, appliqué and embroidery – with attractive
patterns in form and colour of beauty. It is valued piece of utility
wear and decoration. It is a prized gift of culture craft. Rillis
are stitched in Balochistan, Sindh and Cholistan area of Punjab
Province. The traditional colour combination are black, white, red,
blue and green. Each piece of rilli has its individual
characteristics. They carry the hallmark of handmade craft.
